(More customer reviews)Initially, I struggled installing a new 100 ft, 5/8 diameter hose. The retraction function worked OK but it took an inordinate and unacceptable amount of effort to withdraw the hose. I returned the hose to Home Depot and purchased a 100 ft, 1/2 inch diameter hose Tthe 8-ply one) from Amazon. Installation and use are now very convenient. It is posdible that a 9/16 inch diameter hose would work although I didn't want to make a career out of finding the optimal size; just don't waste time with a 5/8 inch diameter hose, notwithstanding the product description.
