You can't even tell that it is a hose holder until you are right up next to it. It is nice that it has holes in the bottom to drain any water that may accumulate in the holder. The only thing that could possibly make it better is if it had a lid.

Suncast Hideaway Hose Reel with Tracker PTK200D Review

(More customer reviews)We bought this, since it was rated for 225' of hose storage. We have two 100' hoses for our front lawn so that we can water from one end of our home to the other, and the entire front yard.
It was not well assembled; it leaked and we had to disassemble the entire box to reseat the inlet connection where it joins to the reel.
It constantly breaks - the center shaft is too weak to support the weight of the hose if there is the least bit of residual water in it and it collapses, making it virtually impossible to unreel the hose without taking the entire product apart. It finally broke the locking tabs this weekend when we tried to unreel it.
It also tips over when you are trying to unreel the hose, and takes forever to wind the hose back up, due to a high gear ratio - each crank winds up a very small amount of hose.
If you have a smaller lawn, and only need 100' or so of hose, this would probably work well for you. But it is NOT capable of handling 200 - 225 feet of hose, as stated. It just doesn't hold up. The sad thing is, they could invest a few more cents in producing a quality product that is sturdier, and have a great product that people would be willing to pay more for.

(More customer reviews)I bought a set of these because the design looked better than typical hose guides that don't hold the hose in place(you have to zoom in on the image to look at the picture on the packaging to see the design). It does work great, it's easy to drop the hose into the guide and it holds it in place without binding up while you pull it. I've only used them a few weeks but the finish looks sturdy and so far has held up to the trimmer with no signs of rust or wear. I liked it so much I bought 2 more sets. I'm using heavy duty kink resistant 5/8" hose with mine.

(More customer reviews)The hose reel has one very bad fault. The fitting for the hose is outside the reel, so you have to run the hose through the side of the reel and to the fitting. When you roll up the hose, it kinks because of the tight curve, and, puts such a strain on the fitting that leaks are also a problem. I bought 2 right angles, 3 two-inch pieces, and hose fittings and brought the fitting to the inside of the reel and it works fine now. Another problem is when you pull only a short section of hose off the reel, it keeps spinning and unreels the rest of the hose onto the floor.
It will do, but certainly is no more than that. Definitely too high priced for what you get, and the modifications you have to make.

When you manage to keep that from happening, often the mechanism that is supposed to guide the hose around the spool doesn't function properly, so the hose winds up in a single spot. Poor assembly: (it flew into five pieces on first attempt to unreel and, even being better than average at mechanical skills, it took ten minutes of creative frustration to figure out how they went back together and tighten down the friction-fit pieces the way they should have been tightened at the factory (same for the end fittings). I'm still unsure of whether the slip washers are in the right position, but it seems to be holding together.
Lousy Fit: There are four fittings (snap fittings and threaded fittings) and all are either proprietary Clabor design (or, possibly, metric) so they fit no standard English threaded garden faucet or standard English nozzles, sprinkers, couplings etc. Even their snap-fittings are non-standard and don't allow purchase of supposed equivalent snap-fittings from your big-box garden supply. Even if they would fit, it comes with no standard threaded male termination to the business end of the hose (and the female end, being non-standard, fits nothing either), so your stuck going back to Clabor for everything you use (including hooking it up to any faucet in the first place) If it's metric, it might work in Europe.
As sending this proprietary rip-off back is more effort than its worth and material quality seems good, I'll retrofit all the end pieces with standard fittings for about an added $10 and a trip to the big box, but never buy Clabor unless you are redoing your whole home, garden and garage in Clabor products, love do your own hardware retro-fitting and/or own their stock.
There should be a warning on this product.

(More customer reviews)The whole reel is made of cheap and thin plastic. The crank gear is also plastic, and as soon as you put some stress on it (like trying to rewind a 100ft hose laying on the ground) it will start skipping and coming apart. The whole product is made of smaller plastic parts that are snapped together, which can not take the smallest amount of stress without breaking off from one another. By my second heavily assisted rewind the whole assembly started leaking like mad (something else snapped I guess), prompting me to return it.
This seems to be a common theme with all the Suncast products, as this is a third model of their hose reel that I have tried. If you had a bad experience with one, do not assume that their more expensive units are any better made. They're just more expensive, that's all.

This one looks really nice, but it's not very stable. The hardware that came with it did not fit well and several of the pieces are wobbly. Only time will tell if its poor stability will effect its durability.

Get the real thing for what most places charge for resin or plastic knock offs. Very pretty embossed pattern. Will be getting a second one soon.
Update - further research indicates this is painted steel. Has held up very well in actual use. I appreciate the lid. Looks good and keeps the hoses out of the sun. Still wish it were real copper, but then it would be a lot more money.
