I have a steep 100' driveway that leads down to a large parking area. I typically use a diesel tractor with a plow blade or a snowthrower to clear the asphalt. If it isn't cleared down to the surface, you don't go. All is fine except for the frequent dustings we get here. They're too light for either piece of equipment, and picture pushing snow off a 100' driveway with a snow shovel. So when I came across the ManPlow, the concept interest me so I decided to give it a try and ordered the 36" blade.
The ManPlow arrived in a large flat box and was assembled for the most part. I only had to attach the handle to the blade. A standard open end wrench was provided as if they assumed you would not even have the most basic tools in your house. Normally these things are good insurance against any further snowfalls, but that was not the case when we got a light dusting several days after I stood it up against the wall of my barn.
Make no mistake, this is not a snow shovel! This is a snow pusher. You can't dig and lift. All action is pushing. The large foot on the bottom prevents the blade from digging in, so you can control how much of a "bite" you can take at one time. The ManPlow is stellar for clearing an inch or two off my driveway. You can angle the blade, leading one edge ahead of the other, and literally plow it off to one side. The plastic edge is quiet, and planes the snoww off right down to the surface. The ManPlow is also good for cleaning up after plowing or snowthrowing.
What it's not good for: I've since been "rewarded" with a couple of large snowfalls. This gave me an opportunity to try it out in the deep stuff by pushing the snow away from the house before getting behind it with my tractor and plow. It's not good. I weigh a little over 200lbs., and I couldn't push a 7" meduim weight snowfall more than 6 feet. I tried the slice at a time method, and although it worked, it was slow.
In summation, the ManPlow is well constructed, and is great for plowing sidewalks, and limited areas. It's also good for getting rid of the light stuff that snowthrowers, and plows can't handle. But for anything over 4", I'll pull out the heavy equipment.
